"Liberation theology … is not only a theology of or about liberation: it is primarily and ultimately a theology for liberation.” In the Philippine context the author calls for the creation of a new man — homo serviens: Man who serves, in place of homo consumens: Man the consumer. To achieve this, man himself must become an agent of social change. The Catholic Church has a vital role to play in helping to bring about this revolutionary but "non-violent" social change."
