Document details
"The AMARC Asia-Pacific Regional Office is pleased to present an updated version of the Asia-Pacific Community Radio Directory that was first published in 2009. We are very thankful to everyone who cooperated with us and sent us their entries. This directory is a work in progress and we hope to continuously build upon it with more entries from across the region in the coming years. We would also like to request our readers to kindly inform us about other community radios in the Asia-Pacific region that are not listed in this directory as well as of any discrepancy among the listed ones." (Introduction, page 1)
"The directory is primarily based on information collected through two methods. An online survey was sent to the community radios in the Asia-Pacific region. The survey sought to collect general information regarding the location of the radio, contact details of the head of the station, type of community radio, hours of broadcast, year of establishment, type of broadcast, and transmission power of the radio. The survey also included questions about the thematic focus of the radio, broadcasting languages, estimated number of listeners and coverage population, target listeners, and their presence in social media. An additional method for acquiring information for this publication was through secondary data collection in the form of desk-based research (of online sources), which helped to gather general information about the countries. It is to be noted that the directory includes radio stations run by educational institutes (e.g. Campus radio) and government-affiliated institutions (e.g. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, India) that are stated as community radios by the respective governments. All information provided in this directory have been provided by the respected radio stations. We are aware that the number of community radios in the Asia-Pacific region exceeds the number of entries in the directory by far." (Methodology, page 2)
