"[...] a key objective of the global Partnership on Measuring ICT for Development is to set standards and harmonize ICT statistics at the global level. To this end, it has worked to develop a core list of ICT indicators that could be collected by all countries and serve as a basis for internationally comparable statistics on the information society. The core list of ICT indicators presented in this document was the outcome of an intensive consultation process of the Partnership with national statistics offices (NSOs). This included a stocktaking exercise through which metadata on the status of official information society statistics were obtained from NSOs worldwide, as well as a series of regional events that discussed core ICT indicators. From these processes, a proposal for a core list of ICT indicators was presented by the Partnership, and adopted by participants, at the WSIS Thematic Meeting on Measuring the Information Society (Geneva, February 2005).
