"This study has three main aims: 1) to arrive at a new assessment of the freedom of the press, nation by nation, in the form of a model which corresponds to the new socio-economic data — 2) to examine the changes which have come about since the study made in 1960 — 3) to study the results in the light of the recent researches by other people — This study is illustrated with tables concerning 117 different countries, showing the number of inhabitants in each country and the percentage of adults who are illiterate, the national income per capita, daily newspapers, radio, cinema, television, to make a statistical appraisal of the freedom of the press — The study shows that the country's economic standard remains a very significant factor."
