How-to note: Co-designing AI solutions with crisis-affected communities (beta version)

Contains figures, bibliogr. pp. 12-13

"This how-to note offers practical guidance for humanitarian actors seeking to co-design AI solutions with crisis-affected communities. This is related to, though not intended to support the technical co-design of AI models, though there is a significant amount of research on this subject. This how-to note outlines guiding principles, key considerations across the lifecycle of the AI solution development process, and risks in co-designing AI solutions with crisis-affected communities. The guidance is grounded in the belief that by co-designing AI solutions with crisis-affected communities and centring their lived experiences, priorities and agency in the process, humanitarian actors can develop AI solutions that are both responsible and responsive, enhancing trust and impact in humanitarian contexts. This framework aligns with the SPHERE standard on participation, which calls for people-centred humanitarian action and inclusive engagement." (Introduction, page 2)
