"In this report we have documented ten case studies of visionary journalism support funds that we can learn from, drawing out insights and experiences from interviews with the people behind these funds. As we ourselves have been founders and leaders of pioneering local news organisations in the UK, we know that a rebirth of local news built around communities is not just needed, but possible. But we also know that sector-scale investment is needed to address a sector-scale challenge. Our research into journalism support funds shows a way forward. We do not need to reinvent the wheel. Taken together, the lessons from these funds produce a blueprint and roadmap for a local news fund in the UK, and beyond. While the report frames these as lessons for the UK, these insights apply to contexts across the world, from local funds to pan-national.
