"This book can benefit people who work with children and those who are interested in beginning puppetry or who want to expand their puppetry knowledge base. It is meant to be an aid to research, an idea starter, and a curiosity tickler. If you have always wanted to try shadow puppetry, for instance, you might want to know a little about the cultures that use shadow puppetry. Then you might want to be led to some books that would give you ideas for trying out shadow puppetry. The titles of suggested books at the end of each entry will lead you to the bibliography with its annotations, which in turn will give you information about the recommended books. Reading the annotations will help to refine your choices and point you toward the first title to try. For example, if you’re a classroom teacher interested in shadow puppetry, you might gravitate to Wisniewskis’ Worlds of Shadow, a book written for teachers. The same title might also appeal to a health worker with a minimum budget and small amount of equipment space who wants to use puppets to involve children in learning about healthy living." (Preface)
