in India during the 20th and 21st centuries. The contributors seek to inspire and inform further inquiries into the histories of film stardom-the industrial construction and promotion of star personalities, the actual labouring and imagined lifestyles of professional stars, the stars' relationship to specific aesthetic cinematic conventions (such as frontality and song-dance) and production technologies (such as the play-back system and post-synchronization), and audiences' investment in and devotion to specific star bodies-across the country's multiple centres of film production and across the overlapping (and increasingly international) zones of the films' distribution and reception. The star images, star bodies and star careers discussed are examined in relation to a wide range of issues, including the negotiation and contestation of tradition and modernity, the embodiment and articulation of both Indian and non-Indian values and vogues; the representation of gender and sexuality, of race and ethnicity, and of cosmopolitan mobility and transnational migration; innovations and conventions in performance style; the construction and transformation of public persona; the star's association with film studios and the mainstream media; the star's relationship with historical, political and cultural change and memory; and the star's meaning and value for specific (including marginalised) sectors of the audience." "Nora Cruz Quebral's passing on 24 October 2020 came at the heels of a mild frenzy when a Philippine senator said that the discipline attributed to her is “cute and archaic" (Nakpil, 2020 para. 1). This prompted various higher education institutions (HEIs), particularly the University of the Phili

ppines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Development Communication (CDC), to issue statements that it is alive, thriving, and relevant (Magsambol, 2020). The UPLB CDC statement stressed that development communication (devcom) remains important for three reasons: “First, devcom has a long and established history, which is recognized by thought leaders around the world. Second, devcom is a vibrant academic program being offered by numerous local and international academic institutions. And third, driving positive social change through communication has always been at the heart of devcom. For as long as there are social issues to be addressed, devcom will remain ever relevant" (UPLB Devcom, 2020, para. 2). Quebral, or simply NCQ to her colleagues and students, is recognized for founding the discipline of devcom. In 1971, she delivered the paper “Development Communication in the Agricultural Context" (Quebral, 2006) to honor the outgoing dean of the UPLB College of Agriculture, Dioscoro L. Umali. She coined development communication to mean “the art and science of human communication applied to the speedy transformation of a country and the mass of its people from poverty to a dynamic state of economic growth that makes possible greater social equality and the larger fulfilment of the human potential" (Quebral, 2006, page 101). At this time Quebral was chair of the UPLB Department of Agricultural Communication. In 1973, the department was renamed Department of Development Communication and the degree Bachelor of Science in Development Communication was approved to be offered."

(Seite 125-127)

"This study investigates the intercultural communication dimension of the life and mission of Arnold Janssen. This qualitative study involves a textual analysis on the relevant data and verbal descriptions about Janssen’s life and mission. The results of the study show that the seed of Janssen’s
...
intercultural communication was primarily rooted in his parents. Being born in a family that was enveloped by a culture of prayer and a culture of peace, Janssen cultivated an intercultural sensitivity. This seed sprouted in his personality and spirituality. It revealed that Janssen was an intercultural-and-receptive person, interested in ethnic groups, cultures, beliefs and nationalities which were different from his own. Such interests were founded by a venturesome spirit which allowed him to welcome the unfamiliarity of the other and to value such differences. Janssen’s intercultural communication dimension, then, characterizes his legacies for the Divine Word Missionaries. With the missionaries, ‘missionary letters’ were Janssen’s primary means of communication. This was a significant medium in his intercultural communication. The researcher finds that Janssen’s intercultural communication was contained in his practice of mission as dialogue. Through the lenses of mission, Janssen’s dialogue competence enabled him to bridge differing views about mission and encourage missionaries to do the same. Hence, the same spirit of dialogue as a way of doing mission has since become the spirit of the SVD and has had several implications on the formation of SVD members." (Abstract)

"Many individuals were involved in the Belgian Congo's attainment of independence. Born in 1931, Mwissa Camus, the dean of Congolese journalists, is one of them. Even though he was opposed to this idea and struggled to maintain his status as member of a certain ‘elite’, his career sheds light on

the advancement of his country towards independence in June 1960. By following his professional career in the years preceding independence, we can see how his development illuminates the emergence of journalism in the Congo, the social position of Congolese journalists, and the ambivalence of their position towards the emancipation process. The road taken by Mwissa Camus – as an actor, witness, extra, and somehow instrument of the events that shook his country – helps understand the Congo's move towards independence from a particular perspective. History – that of a hurried independence, blatantly unprepared, on which a small elite failed to agree – is revealed through his words and the unveiling of his ‘world.’ This article is essentially based on interviews with Mwissa Camus and on Congolese newspaper articles from 1959, 1960 and 1961." ci, a Jesuit missionary, is considered the apostle of China. Since then, his missionary approach – the accommodation missionary strategy affirmed by the Second Vatican Council as the model of “Inculturation” – is widely studied not only in China but the entire world. The key to understand Ricci’s missionary method is Ricci himself. It is the initial step to explore his ministry and missionary activities in history, the Ming Dynasty. Pastoral and Evangelizing communication centers on the ministers, precisely, discussing the ways and means of pastoral and evangelizing ministry of the Church ad extra and ad intra. The decisive element to foster a competent communicator requires the communicative disposition, which means to open. Pastoral and Evangelizing communication also highlights to proper use the mass means of social communication to achieve the proclamation of Christ in Chinese context. Time has changed. Today, the Church in China needs to deal with the Sino-Vatican relationship, the divisions inside the Church and the social-economic challenges. The study tries to further investigate Ricci’s Missionary activities and approaches and to analyze it from the perspective of pastoral and evangelizing communication, so as to help pastoral ministers living in the 21st century in China."
