"The expertise brought by three important Brazilian public universities (Unesp, UnB, and UFSC), combined with the knowledge accumulated through research investment by the Technische Universität Dortmund, was taken here as a unique and rich source of knowledge capable of avoiding the pitfalls and overcoming the deficiencies that have been hindering the search for ways to deal with shared problems, such as the media’s credibility deficit, the lack of trust in democracy, the lack of funding for public broadcasting systems and the role of the media in strengthening civic life and addressing the public accountability deficit of democratic governments. Our research project comprehensively addressed these complex issues, comprising three dimensions: media accountability and public service broadcasting, internet access and net neutrality, and the Right to information and transparency. The funding came from the Probral Program – Cooperation Projects in Research between Brazil and Germany – CAPES/DAAD, from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)."
