"To the colonized, the term 'research' is conflated with European colonialism; the ways in which academic research has been implicated in the throes of imperialism remains a painful memory. This essential volume explores intersections of imperialism and research - specifically, the ways in which imp

erialism is embedded in disciplines of knowledge and tradition as 'regimes of truth.' Concepts such as 'discovery' and 'claiming' are discussed and an argument presented that the decolonization of research methods will help to reclaim control over indigenous ways of knowing and being. This eagerly awaited second edition includes substantial revisions, with important additions on new indigenous literature and the role of research in indigenous struggles for social justice." "This report presents the findings of a systematic study of the value of the services that libraries in the UK provide to researchers, and of the contributions that libraries from a wide range of institutions make to institutional research performance. The aim was to identify the key characteristics

of library provision to support research in successful UK universities and departments. The approach comprised two main elements: quantitative analysis of statistics – from SCONUL, HESA, and the RAE, along with bibliometric data - to investigate correlations between the characteristics and behaviours of libraries in 67 UK HE institutions, and the research performance of those institutions; and gathering and analysing a large tranche of qualitative information from nine institutions with a range of characteristics." "CD-ROM publishing is evolving so fast that there is no way that African users can keep pace with the new developments. As a result, African universities are hard-pressed to make appropriate decisions concerning the best allocation of scarce resources, which means that many of them are subscribing t

o databases that are inappropriate to their needs. These databases can be very expensive, taking the major share of a library's budget and leaving it little room to acquire other types of materials. Moreover, although database acquisition might be underwritten by donor funding at the outset, grants inevitably expire, leaving librarians with the dilemma of finding money to pay for subscription renewals - thus calling into question the long-term sustainability of CD-ROM utilization at their institutions. To meet these needs, the AAAS Sub-Saharan Africa Program decided to embark on an initiative to evaluate CD-ROM databases in the sciences and social sciences for their relevance to African teaching and research needs. The assessments were carried out in seven universities, two of which were in South Africa. An evaluation workshop was organized to assess the collected data. This book contains abridged versions of reports presented at the workshop and, although the book is about CD-ROM, it is not devoted to CD-ROM entirely. There are chapters on document delivery, current awareness services and on-line searching." (https://cgspace.cgiar.org/handle/10568/47476)

and data used in different disciplines in different cultural settings. The book contains a great number of ideas and reflections on poverty manifestations, poverty research and poverty strategies, of great value for researchers and policy-makers alike. As such, it is a baseline for ongoing and future research, and a major contribution to setting up the agenda for poverty research in the new millennium." (https://www.crop.org/Publications)
