"Reducing risk and increasing resilience to natural disasters and climate change requires access to knowledge, information and the active participation of vulnerable population. d stakeholders for the design and implementation of communication for development (ComDev) activities that will increase resilience and protect the livelihoods of rural communities. It builds on the experience gained in the Caribbean region as a result of FAO projects aimed at strengthening preparedness to natural disasters and improving community-based climate change adaptation. As a field guide, it provides a complete overview of how to assess rural people’s communication needs and how to plan and implement ComDev activities in the context of disaster risk management, crisis preparedness and emergency response in agriculture, food security and nutrition. It also provides guidance on how to apply ComDev to enhance the overall ADRM participatory planning and result monitoring processes, ensuring multi-stakeholder dialogue and participation." "This study identifies and addresses key challenges concerning M&E for climate change adaptation (CCA). It does so by documenting good practices and good practice principles on the development, selection, and use of indicators used in the M&E of adaptation interventions. The study also looks at the

steps and contexts M&E personnel should consider when formulating, selecting, adjusting, and/or using indicators. In addition, the study identifies common themes in the literature and gaps in data—including the role of learning in an adaptation M&E system and the identification of linkages (or lack thereof) between indicators and policy formulation and decisions. The study first looks at M&E for CCA in a broader context to see what the key challenges are (chapter 2), and how M&E is being applied in the adaptation field (chapter 3). It reviews the types of adaptation indicators that are commonly used (chapter 4), and then moves into a narrower discussion of what practitioners need to consider when developing better, more useful indicators. It next documents good practice principles that help define indicators for adaptation interventions (chapter 5). Finally, it looks at how the evaluation-policy interface can support better adaptation policies, and if good practice principles can inform greater uptake of evaluation results as evidence in policy making (chapter 6)." azônia”. "This article explores obstacles and conditions that environmental nongovernmental organizations face in interacting with media outlets in Kyrgyzstan. It also examines the limited scope of environmental journalism and the resulting limited ability of news outlets and eco-NGOs to help set the public

agenda for discussion of policy and issues in the country. Even if such public relations interaction occurs, it is rarely effective and rarely generates influential eco/environmental articles in the media. The study is based on a content analysis of the news agency 24.kg and the newspaper Vecherniy Bishkek. It includes results of a survey and interviews with eco-NGOs representatives." (Abstract)

"This work aims to extend the UNESCO Model Curricula for Journalism Education to include new syllabi covering emerging or particularly relevant themes in journalism education globally. As such, it builds on the model curricula – as well as the supplementary UNESCO publication titled A Compendium o

f New Syllabi – to effectively respond to new issues facing journalism professionals and teachers. This publication is especially opportune in its response to a key development challenge of the next 15 years. With the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) coming to an end, and being replaced with what will be called the ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ (SDGs), a long-term pedagogical strategy is called for which can respond to the correlation between a free, independent and pluralistic media system and the overall process of sustainable development. Against this background, all the syllabi in this particular publication are underpinned by the theme of human development, and indicate UNESCO’s unique normative role in promoting good practices and agenda-setting with regard to journalism education worldwide. In this regard, the publication helps to extend our theoretical understanding of journalism as a responsive, dynamic and evolving practice. It is thus a significant step beyond the model curricula originally published in 2007." (Foreword)

It was used as a resource to brief the program team before they conducted their field trips to apprise them of the situation in each of the countries. The review adopts a regional perspective on disaster risk reduction and emergency broadcasting with examples of disaster communication in localised environments." (Page 2)

"During the first decade of the twenty-first century, a stunning array of documentary films focusing on environmental issues has been met with critical and popular acclaim. Green Documentary is the first book-length study of this phenomenon. It explores how the films offer a variety of responses to

the questions raised by environmental change: about the future of the countryside, the relationship between health and industrial pollution, the role of corporations and the politics of energy and climate. Offering a coherent analysis of imaginative, controversial and high-profile documentary films such as Into Eternity, The Yes Men Fix the World and An Inconvenient Truth, the book divides the responses into contemplation, irony and passionate argument, and the recruitment of the filmmaking process itself into the campaign to bring about better change. Along with analysis that includes the wider context of environmental documentary filmmaking, about local rural communities in Britain and Europe, Green Documentary underlines the important role of documentary film in the on-going public debate about the environment."
