"This work has highlighted the biased approaches in the use of imagery by those who hold power in global health. It is crucial to engage with these issues and to identify how we can work to treat individuals featured in global health imagery equitably, regardless of their circumstances, geography, r

ace, gender, or socioeconomic status. The current narrative depicted within the imagery of infectious diseases reports in global health represents power imbalances driven by race, geography, and gender. This translates to women and children of colour that are based in low and middle income countries (LMICs) being treated with less dignity, respect, and power than those from high income countries (HICs). The absence of evidence of consent for using intrusive and unnecessary images, particularly of children in LMICs and often out of context to the narrative of the reports, is of particular concern." first three chapters review basic communication concepts, from analyzing your audience to building a storyline. Chapters 4 and 5 shift the focus from conceptual to practical by introducing guidelines for presenting data, as well as the Organize, Plan, Test, and Integrate (OPT-In) framework developed by the textbook’s authors to aid in planning and executing data-related communications. Chapters 6 and 7 focus on the application of concepts and the OPT-In framework to the real world in scenarios, such as crisis situations or advocacy. The ultimate goal of this workbook—and the book 'Making Data Talk: Communicating Public Health Data to the Public, Policy Makers, and the Press'—is to help you select and communicate quantitative data in ways lay audiences can understand. You will gain the most from this workbook by reviewing its contents in concert with the book 'Making Data Talk: Communicating Public Health Data to the Public, Policy Makers, and the Press', making note of the tips and guidelines it presents, and completing the practical exercises beginning in Chapter 3 to ensure your understanding of the concepts and ability to successfully apply them." they contribute to the initial, intermediate, and long-term outcomes of health development efforts—something which perhaps we all instinctively recognize but have failed to track in the past. Such a track record will go a long way to making information products and services an integral part of future global health development efforts. What makes this guide special is that it brings together knowledge about monitoring and evaluating information products and services from dozens of health organizations—all members of the HIPNET community of practice." specialists, social scientists and others, in order to improve access to relevant and reliable information for health professionals in developing and transitional countries. It was launched in 1996 as a programme of the International Network for the Availability of Scientific Publications (INASP). It has one full-time staff member, with some support for administration and finance from INASP. Since its inception, its activities have grown to include an Advisory and Liaison Service, bi-monthly Health Information Forum (HIF) meetings, the HIF-net at WHO email discussion list, the INASP Health Links Internet gateway, the Health Library Partnerships Database, and the INASP-Health Directory. INASP-Health's success has been to develop a set of real resources with expectations around their potential for further development. In the period reviewed for this evaluation, the work of INASP-Health has contributed to the improvement of access to reliable, relevant information for health professionals in developing countries. But demands on its services are growing and INASP-Health has now reached a stage where some fundamental decisions need to be made on its future development." (Executive summary)

"This manual has two parts: the first looks at the aspects of a good manual. We argue that a good manual must have the right contents, to make it usable (right for the reader, and of good quality) and applicable (can be applied in the work of the user); it must have the right method, form and struct

ure, to make it accessible; and the manual must be available when needed. Part II covers the process of testing. In testing, you need to know the strong and weak points of the manual itself, and to know if it is (or will be) available where it is needed. Thus the types of questions to ask and what they tell you are included. This part looks at when and where to test, and how to test manuals for non-literates. In the text, a number of examples are used. These are all fictional, although they are based on situations we have seen." (Introduction, page 4)
