Den Untersuchungskorpus bildeten dabei jene Doku-Soaps, deren Setting und Handlungsraum um 1900 platziert sind (die ARD-Produktionen Schwarzwaldhaus 1902, Abenteuer 1900, die britischen Produktionen des Channel4 1900 House, Edwardian Country House, sowie die US-amerikanischen Pendants der Senderkette PBS Frontier House, TexasRanch House). Living History fußt stets auf einer Wissensaneignung über emotionale Ansprache – egal ob im Museum, auf dem Mittelalter-Markt oder über das Fernsehen. Durch die materialnahen Analysen konnte bestätigt werden, dass die Erfahrbarmachung des vergangenen Alltags in zweifacher Weise über die emotionale Ansprache erfolgt, einmal über das Mitmachen, aber auch über das Zusehen. Bei letzterem eben nicht körperlich-sinnlich, sondern auf Bewusstseinsebene. Living History als mediale Form von Alltagserzählung eröffnet Aushandlungsräume zu den in der Gesellschaft verankerten Werten und Normen. Die Analysen haben gezeigt, dass die konstruierte Rückversetzung in der Zeit einen Erfahrungsraum eröffnet, der über die Spiegelung im historisierten Setting dafür sorgt, dass man sich der gegenwärtigen Verhältnisse gewahr werden kann." While curricula and practices exist they are not coherent within faith communities or in widespread use within the communities considered. Globally there is a deep and growing interest evident in mainstream faith communities especially. (16%) remains stable after a big jump in 2017. • Even in countries with higher levels of payment, the vast majority only have ONE online subscription – suggesting that ‘winner takes all’ dynamics are likely to be important. One encouraging development though is that most payments are now ‘ongoing’, rather than one-offs. In some countries, subscription fatigue may also be setting in, with the majority preferring to spend their limited budget on entertainment (Netflix/Spotify) rather than news. With many seeing news as a ‘chore’, publishers may struggle to substantially increase the market for high-priced ‘single title’ subscriptions. As more publishers launch pay models, over two-thirds (70%) of our sample in Norway and half (50%) in the United States now come across one or more barriers each week when trying to read online news. In many countries, people are spending less time with Facebook and more time with WhatsApp and Instagram than this time last year. Few users are abandoning Facebook entirely, though, and it remains by far the most important social network for news. Social communication around news is becoming more private as messaging apps continue to grow everywhere. WhatsApp has become a primary network for discussing and sharing news in non-Western countries like Brazil (53%) Malaysia (50%), and South Africa (49%). People in these countries are also far more likely than in the West to be part of large WhatsApp groups with people they don’t know – a trend that reflects how messaging applications can be used to easily share information at scale, potentially encouraging the spread of misinformation. Public and private Facebook Groups discussing news and politics have become popular in Turkey (29%) and Brazil (22%) but are much less used in Western countries such as Canada (7%) or Australia (7%). Concern about misinformation and disinformation remains high despite efforts by platforms and publishers to build public confidence. A critical discourse analysis of the NYT’s news articles about fake news accusations in the first 70 days following President Trump’s inauguration reveals four delegitimizing strategies. First, the accusations are taken as a “badge of honor” for professional journalism but are morally evaluated to damage journalism’s role as the fourth estate in democracy. Second, using sarcasm, the articles criticize President Trump’s capacity to govern and thus question his legitimacy. Third, reporting implies that fake news accusations aim at suppressing critical thinking as in authoritarian regimes. Fourth, accusations are described as irrational responses to professional reporting or proven to be factually wrong, when possible. Overall, reporting in the NYT portrays President Trump as an irresponsible leader risking the well-being of the country’s citizens, its journalism, and its democracy, as well as journalism in foreign countries." Given these patterns in news discourse, it is no surprise that Americans engage superficially with the topic of distant suffering.… Journalists could begin to change the way foreign crises are covered and present better coverage of solutions by actually asking victims on the ground what they think rather than relying on political leaders and charitable groups for facts and quotes. For instance, despite many stories on al-Shabaab, none included any comments by Somalis themselves on what could be done to stop the group, and only a very small number of victim comments explicitly addressed causes or solutions. While several pieces stated that the famine was caused by drought, no Somalis were ever quoted regarding what government policies or international interventions might have lessened the severity of future droughts."
