It should serve as a hands-on toolbox for practitioners working to advance media freedom and is based on an approach first developed and implemented by DW Akademie and the Center for International Media Assistance (CIMA) in 2015. We aim to make this method available for international organizations carrying out consultations, as well as regional and local organizations who would like to do so. Consultations can take place in-person, online or in hybrid form." (Page 2)

ect some of the contemporary ideas about narrative practice to some of the wisdom and inspiration that can be found in related practices—from Afrofuturism to artistic activism to peacebuilding—all while offering questions to inspire thinking about your own practice, examples from our partners' initiatives, reflections from our experience, and resources for your own exploration. We lay out six elements (or, as we call them, spice blends) that describe and invite creativity, reflection, and exploration for activism and advocacy: problem spaces; creativity; visioning & imagination; hope, values, emotions; experiences & relationships; people. Each element emerged from the work of the teams we partnered with, and they build on and point towards the work that has inspired and informed our own thinking. They are intended to be explored, played with, changed, and built upon. They are meant to be a resource and a source of inspiration and reflection for practitioners and funders alike." (Page 7)

Adaptive management is a response to rising critiques since the early 2000s to traditional pre-determined development programming, arguing that too often simple solutions have been applied unsuccessfully to complex problems. DT Global considers adaptive management in practice as four essential elements operating together: flexibility, responsiveness, purposive learning and an empowering culture." (Page 1)

heir solutions is what is referred to as the PD approach. The method described in this handbook follows the same logic as the PD approach but uses pre-existing, non-traditional data sources instead of — or in conjunction with — traditional data sources. Non-traditional data in this context broadly refers to data that is digitally captured (e.g. mobile phone records and financial data), mediated (e.g. social media and online data), or observed (e.g. satellite imagery). The integration of such data to complement traditional data sources generally used in PD is what we refer to as Data Powered Positive Deviance (DPPD)." (Page 7)

approach is also useful for work involving marginalised populations, including refugees and people with disabilities, as these populations tend to have fewer opportunities to voice their experiences and influence decisionmaking processes. At the same time, they face complex systemic challenges. To shape solutions that will effectively address these challenges, their perspective is absolutely critical. Human-centred design research methodologies are well suited to the challenge because they bring the perspective of this end user to the forefront. This report documents the human-centred design process used in a project conducted in 2020 in Nairobi, Kenya. It includes research tools that can be used in other contexts, as well as the adaptations that were made to research tools to ensure they were inclusive. These are documented in the two page spreads below: Location Mapping, User Journeys, Communication Mapping, Future Me and Daily Diaries. These tools are followed by the main lessons learned, and recommendations for others who want to implement a similar process. More research should be conducted to better understand the experiences of people with disabilities in humanitarian contexts." (Executive summary)
