Why is it important to train the interviewers? How to avoid mistakes by translating the questionnaires in indigenous languages? How to organize focus groups? How to interpret ratings? This publication is a gold mine of experience for anybody who needs to know more about his audience and to reflect on the own research practice." (CAMECO Update 1-2008)

. The First Section is about understanding your security needs and vulnerabilities. It describes a non-technical approach to the digital environment. A method of mapping the threats, posed by a particular situation, is off e red to help you decide on the strategies for implementing privacy and security solutions. The Second Section lists various elements of computer and Internet security. It introduces the reader to computer operations and Internet infrastructure. Methods of securing data, bypassing Internet censorship and protecting yourself against malicious attacks are explained in detail. The Third Section is a summary of worldwide legislation to restrict and monitor information flow and communications. It shows the downward trend, caused by the growth of restrictions to the rights to freedom of expression, privacy and communication, in many countries. Cases of human rights defenders currently in prison or persecuted because of their work through the Internet are presented as examples of the ways some governments enforce these pieces of legislation. The Fourth Section drafts possible scenarios for human rights defenders and their organisations of dealing with problems of electronic insecurity and ensuring continuation of their work. The scenarios relate to the concepts presented throughout the book and solutions are based on realisable actions." (Page 3)

tices included in this report will help readers plan and implement campaigns that use various combinations of online and offline tools to effectively engage their constituencies. Of course, technology changes in a nanosecond, making some strategies and tactics nearly obsolete almost as the words describing them are written. Nevertheless, the underlying ideas and concepts described here will remain relevant and the resources listed in the report will stand as sources for finding new, perhaps not yet imagined, tools to combine online and offline advocacy strategies. The PolicyLink website (www.policylink.org) is one such resource where visitors will find updates on campaigns described in this document and brand new ones." (Preface)

by nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) and others involved in TB control, including communications officers, epidemiologists, program supervisors, TB medical specialists, nurses, bacteriologists, statisticians, health educators, logistics officers and trainers. Health managers of refugee and displaced population camps, prisons and large private enterprises, such as factories and mines, will also find this handbook useful. Additionally, teachers in medical, nursing, laboratory and public health schools may find valuable information for training their students in effective, multi-disciplinary TB control." ct African countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. Our project has three broad strands: - Population surveys of knowledge and attitudes toward TJ issues in project countries; - In-country training of 20 selected journalists, as well as activities designed to engage the support of their managers or editors; - Follow-up activities via online learning, Internet, and local mentoring. The project is designed to ensure continued commitment from local actors— especially journalists—to improve the quality and quantity of TJ coverage. The training of journalists is seen as a key factor in providing better information to the public. This Handbook is not meant to be an exhaustive guide. However, we hope that it will provide a useful, quick-reference manual on key TJ issues. It is designed principally for journalists, but we hope that it may also prove useful to civil society actors and all those concerned with moving transitional justice forward." Subsequently, Chapter 4 addresses the issue of objectives and indicators at the national level, i.e. in PRSPs. Finally, Chapters 5, 6 and 7 are concerned with the level of the sector itself and the Danish support for it (SPS - sector programme support), discussing relevant indicators and related monitoring tools and methods at this level." "Media centres around the world are facing the same challenges in ensuring long-term sustainability after “start-up” funding from donors ceases. In order to overcome these challenges, a number of centres have pioneered innovative approaches for ensuring financial and institutional viability and

credibility, thus allowing them to successfully evolve into stable expert institutions within their media landscapes. It is in this context that in October 2006 International Media Support (IMS) invited a number of media centres and other institutions from Southeast Europe, West and East Africa, South and Southeast Asia and the Middle East to a workshop to share lessons learnt and identify approaches for addressing common challenges. These centres were asked to join the workshop because they represent perspectives and experiences from all over the world, thus offering the chance to pool diverse knowledge and experiences. In undertaking this workshop, it was recognised that all media centres are unique. The participating institutions represented media centres at differing stages in their development and performing varied roles, from lobbying for media policy reform to providing training opportunities and producing media publications. Nevertheless, despite these differences, there are considerable similarities and therefore scope for sharing knowledge. As an outcome of the workshop, the best practices discussed and defined by the participants have been collated in this handbook, which is being published jointly by IMS and the participating media centres. I hope that this publication is a useful tool for media centres of all designs and orientations, in further strengthening their options for achieving financial self sustainability."
