"This learning brief provides an overview of the rites of passage that coalitions may experience as they attempt to chart their way through what is often unknown territory. national experience which can help shape new initiatives and give them impetus. Balancing inclusion with focus is a particular challenge as alliances attempt to cater to multiple agendas and accommodate conflicting viewpoints. The risks of coalitions falling victim to infighting, disenchantment, funding gaps and political capture are very real. Nevertheless, the approaches highlighted in this document have proven their worth. Coalitions worldwide have marked up an impressive tally of achievements ranging from greater protections for media practitioners to the introduction of new legislation that supports regulation and decriminalises libel. They have helped forge lasting links between stakeholders and sectors that previously had limited experience of cooperation and even considered themselves to be diametrically opposed." "It has been widely agreed that national platforms for Communication and Community Engagement (CCE) are essential for making progress toward greater participation and accountability in humanitarian response. by our How-To Guide for organisations interested in establishing such platforms. By ‘platforms’, the network refers to innovative coordination mechanisms that bring together community engagement activities and sit within, or influence, overall response leadership. These ensure community engagement efforts are coordinated, systemic and locally-led. This Status Update February 2020 outlines the context, leads, donors and challenges and opportunities of 23 national and regional platforms in 22 countries that are currently operating." "In early 2020 hromadske reached a crisis point. omadske embarked on a journey to recreate its organizational structure, operations, planning and team management, the revenue model … basically everything related to setting and realizing goals. Such transformations are rare in the media industry. Big changes in how things are done can be perceived as an admission of past mistakes or failures something that doesn’t sit well for many managers in our image conscious industry. More importantly, media transformations over focus on the visible part the journalism. But problems in editorial are often a symptom of deeper issues. hromadske decided to “pop the hood” and dig into the organization’s engine starting from the basics. The present document aims to provide a preliminary template for other media contemplating radical change, that we hope will be further developed by other media organizations going through similar issues. It lays out the challenges we faced, what we did to resolve them, and the lessons we learned along the way. We hope it will provide some insights and guidance." (Page 1)

"The relationships between water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) actors are critical for improving and sustaining WASH services. Social network analysis (SNA) is a powerful tool for studying social systems that focuses attention on the complex relationships among actors in a system. Specifically, it

shows the relationships among actors, who can be individuals or organizations. It can increase the understanding of the structural characteristics of a network, such as who the central actors in a network are, how tightly interconnected or fragmented the network is, and what subgroups or clusters exist. This information can highlight strengths and weaknesses in communication, the flow of resources, power structures, and the overall functioning of the network. As part of an overall systems approach to WASH, the United States Agency for International Development’s Sustainable WASH Systems (SWS) Learning Partnership is applying SNA across a range of activities in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, and Cambodia, with 12 of 19 planned applications completed to date. This learning brief summarizes SWS’s application and use of SNA." (Page 1)

"As capitalism faces a series of structural crises, a new social, political and economic dynamic is emerging: peer to peer. What is peer to peer (P2P)? Why is it essential for building a commons-centric future? How could this happen? These are the questions we try to answer, by tying together four o
...
f its aspects: 1. P2P is a type of social relations in human networks, where participants have maximum freedom to connect. 2. P2P is also a technological infrastructure that makes the generalization and scaling up of such relations possible. 3. P2P thus enables a new mode of production and property. 4. P2P creates the potential for a transition to an economy that can be generative towards people and nature. We believe that these four aspects will profoundly change human society. P2P ideally describes systems in which any human being can contribute to the creation and maintenance of a shared resource while benefiting from it. There is an enormous variety of such systems: from the free encyclopedia Wikipedia to free and open-source software projects, to open design and hardware communities, to relocalization initiatives and community currencies." For each method, the handbook provides a practical step-by-step guide and case studies that help readers in using that method in their own research. The methods discussed are useful for all areas of media and communication policy research, for research concerning the governance of both mass media and online platforms, and for policy issues around the globe."
