This article begins by describing the general orientation of Makgabaneng as EE and its specific theoretical model: the MARCH model of behaviour change. Through a survey of Batswana living in and around the capital of Gabarone, we assess whether Makgabaneng is effective in promoting knowledge, attitudinal and behavioural change. er understand the significance of ACSM in TB-control interventions under the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP). The handbook provides practical guidelines and describes the ‘nuts and bolts’ of operational activities with examples of planning and implementing different ACSM programs and activities. The experience of assessing the ACSM scenario in five states, viz., Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, and Meghalaya, conducted by IHBP during 2012, came useful in developing this handbook. This document remains a dynamic and living document that will be updated with inputs from the field during its operationalization at state and district levels. The handbook has been organized into seven parts: Part 1 of the handbook describes the background and context of TB-related ACSM in India and provides conceptual clarity on the strategy framework of ACSM as distinct but mutually supporting interventions for TB prevention and cure. Part 2 outlines the strategy and explains step-by-step processes of ACSM situation analysis to prepare robust, evidence-based program implementation plans (PIPs). Part 3 describes ACSM objectives, approach, and implementation plan. Part 4 discusses the selection of channels and messages based on the ‘strengths’ and ‘weaknesses’ of different channels to enable selection of costeffective channels/vehicles of message delivery to targeted audiences and design of appropriate messages. Part 5 describes the different tools that could be used for ACSM activities and preparation of PIPs at district and state levels as well as describes various ACSM activities with practical operational details for implementation. t the federal, state and local government levels. Fifty four (54,) subjects, consisting of 5 policy and decision makers in health, information and education sectors, 5 community leaders, 15 media personnel, 15 state health officials, 20 LGA officials, 12 representatives of non-governmental organizations, 5 opinion leaders, 7 clinic staff, 6 state health officials and 8 mothers were purposively selected from the federal level and two states; Imo and Kano states of Nigeria. Methodology used for data collection includes individual and group interviews and critical evaluation instruments. Findings show that the mass campaign strategy proved to be the most effective strategy for reaching both rural and urban dwellers and specific groups with immunization messages. The alliance between the health workers and community leaders, social groups, NGOs and the information education sectors, had a multiplier effect on the campaign and helped to create feelings of solidarity. The ubiquitous channels of traditional and religious leaders and youth groups helped to spread immunization messages and gain support for the programme. Women and women groups were adequately involved at the federal level and in Imo State, a Christian state in the South-East. This was not the case in Kano State, a muslim state in the north due to sociocuitural factors. The sustainability of the programme lies in more integration, more intersectoral collaboration, more institutionalization, more quality verification, more decentralization, greater local political commitment and a multistrategic approach to campaign planning and implementation." This paper reviews 24 interventions and programs implemented to change four health behaviours related to child health in developing countries: the use of bed nets, hand washing, face washing and complementary feeding. The techniques employed are organized under six categories: information, performance, problem solving, social support, materials, and media. The most successful interventions use three or even four categories of techniques, engaging participants at the behavioural, social, sensory, and cognitive levels. We discuss the link between techniques and theories. We propose that program development would be more systematic if researchers considered a menu of technique categories appropriate for the targeted behaviour and audience when designing their studies." The same is true for the Intergenerational Dialogue and community dialogues where some studies show an effect on people to discuss relevant issues and be aware of risks.
