It aims to give examples and tools for talkshows which contribute to peace, and is structured in three greater parts

: 1. Explanations of 'conflict' and of the different kinds of violence (ie, physical, cultural and structural) 2. Definitions and examples for talkshows and the different formats commonly used (face to face, roundtable, phone-in) 3. Notes on issues and practices, discussing questions like: how to talk about taboo subjects, how to deal with hate speech, accusation, censorship or even extremely sensitive issues like genocide, and how to seek the common ground of conflicting parties? Moreover, the manual contains a planning checklist and suggestions for conflict mapping in order to gain a better understanding of the conflict, and it shows the differences between peace and conflict-oriented talkshows." . Four principles, proven true in a variety of settings and industries, form the basis of this report. If embraced, they have the potential to improve operations in conflict-prone settings: 1. Connectivity increases effectiveness. Connectivity is the capacity for individuals and organizations to interface. Connectivity allows for, but does not guarantee, frequent and meaningful interactions, which can help diverse actors develop a common operating language, plan and conduct joint exercises, and integrate operations during crises; 2. Free revealing. Openly sharing new ideas, innovations, and information is better suited to fast-paced, chaotic environments than is the traditional practice of closely managing information flows through established hierarchies; 3. Community generates content. Relying on the community to generate, share, and interpret content makes the best use of resources and minimizes constraints in conflict settings. These settings demand flexibility and adaptability on many levels. User-driven content, in which all individuals contribute information, share concepts, and evaluate resources, is the practical choice for environments with conflicting and unreliable data; 4. Lead users drive the market. By identifying and promoting the practices of lead users (those at the top end of the bell curve), the effectiveness of the entire international community can be enhanced." (Executive summary)

the courts and on the ground. The handbook is designed either to support formal training sessions with humanitarian law experts and experienced journalist trainers or to be used on its own for independent study and review. The boxes in each chapter are intended to make the sometimes complex information easier to digest. Extended appendices provide basic humanitarian law documents and suggested online resources for further study and research. The purpose of this book is to support countries emerging from war by improving public understanding of international and other justice processes." (Introduction)

ticular conflict. Most practitioners assume that media must have the power to influence the development of peace in a conflict environment. Practitioners and authors assume that if media can motivate people to engage in conflict, they must also have the power to exert influence in the opposite direction, thus promoting peace. This study takes into consideration the most basic theories of media effects throughout the 20th century." (Abstract)

Konstruktive Konfliktberichterstattung erweist sich als zukunftsfähiges Projekt, das eine größere Breitenwirkung jedoch nur durch eine nachhaltige Veränderung spezifischer journalistischer Routinen, Einstellungen und Kompetenzen erzielen wird." s include: customise the media development strategies to context, i.e. undertake a detailed diagnostic analysis of the complex political, economic and social background of the country, as well as of the nature of conflict, and the structures of government and citizens' participation before and after a war, or period of violent conflict; recognise that the development of an open and free media environment, like other liberal projects, requires the presence of a strong state which includes, among other features, a well functioning legal and judicial environment that is able to apply checks and balances; support research that examines the role of media in both state unraveling and state reconstruction, as well as the specific historical evolution of media in fragile states including particular experiences of violent conflict and war, and encourage the development of regional networks of local media researchers." It assumes the audience has experience, training, and access to resources on conflict assessments, which are a prerequisite to participating in conflict transformation program design [...] The manual offers general information on learning and change in addition to chapters dedicated to specific issues such as baselines, indicators, monitoring, and evaluation. It is organized so that readers can easily jump from one chapter to another. ile recognizing that information strategies vary from one mission to another and are dependent on individual mission mandates, the paper addresses the organizational structures that determine mission information strategies and policies general to all missions. The paper takes as a case study the role of the public information department in the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), with a particular focus on public outreach by UNMIK’s radio and television units. Recognizing that each peace mission is different in scope and mandate, and that Kosovo is characterized by an unusual degree of UN control and authority, the paper contends that lessons may nevertheless be extrapolated from the UNMIK experience that are relevant to UN missions elsewhere in the world and to communication strategies in post-conflict environments in general."
