"The findings from the study represent a mixed bag. There is much to celebrate—improved quality of life, enhanced productivity owing to factors such as reduced commute time, and, at scale, the evident reduction of the pollution load on the planet. Further, it sheds light on the possibility that gi

ven the right policy and incentive regimes, telecommuting will enable many more to engage in the productive economy—including those who currently do not participate in the workforce owing to caregiving or other such responsibilities. But there are areas of concern. As ‘leaving for work’ morphed into ‘living at work,’ working hours stretched, and lines between worktime and downtime blurred. A matter of great concern was that inequality manifests itself in yet newer forms—the poor fared far worse than middle- and upper-income earners, taking hits not only on incomes, but also in lacking the wherewithal to participate in the online economy." This is not a traditional step-by-step guide: the document mainly aims to clarify the underlying ideas of the ToC." (Page

"Diversification with age: The media in this research are in a constant process of diversifying their revenue streams. Generally speaking, the longer a medium exists, the more income streams a medium has. This shows that diversification of income models takes time and patience. Donor funding remains

important: Donor funding is a very important source of income, even within diversified income models. Media that do not receive any donor funding are generally either start-ups (less than two years old) or solid, long standing media houses (founded more than 20 years ago) that have a print edition or also broadcast on television. Most media generate advertisement income: Advertisement income is also still a very important source of income; a large majority of the media generate some income through advertisement. Even though digital advertising generates much less revenue than print advertisement once did, advertisement income is still a welcome contribution to the annual budget of media. Reader revenue in diversified models: Reader revenue is an important upcoming revenue streams in many contexts. However, it hardly ever is the first source of revenue, and generally becomes part of already diversified income models (three revenue streams or more). Media in challenging contexts are fragile: Across all the challenging contexts, media struggle to sustain themselves financially. In low income countries, and countries with a very bad press freedom status, growth or income diversification are not easy–almost impossible –to accomplish [...]" (Main findings, page 4-5)

"Outcome Mapping was developed 20 years ago by the International Development Research Centre and for many in the development sector it has become a staple in planning, monitoring and evaluation toolkits. Countless organisations across the world have applied and adapted Outcome Mapping for their own

projects and programmes, tailored to their needs and contexts. Every now and then we hear about these applications and, as a community of practitioners, we get to learn from them and improve our own understanding and practice. AGIAMONDO is one such organisation, and Managing Outcomes is its generous contribution to our community, building on over ten years of experience with Outcome Mapping. AGIAMONDO have taken the tools and principles of Outcome Mapping and adapted them to their institutional context, using the elements that work best for them, and offering a number of different tools to complement the original OM tools. While AGIAMONDO have developed this approach for their own projects and those of their partner organisations, Managing Outcomes offers an opportunity for learning and discussion for the Outcome Mapping Learning Community. In particular, Managing Outcomes includes a section on situation analysis which helps lay a clear foundation for project planning and it provides a detailed guide for monitoring, reflection and self-evaluation. Through these additions, AGIAMONDO has distilled many practices and innovations in planning, monitoring and evaluation that have arisen since OM was first developed [...]" (Foreword, page iv)

in the newsroom, but instead aims to meet the needs of all the individuals within the community served? Assuming there is, how does a news enterprise capture some of the value created for that community? We have three reasons to believe these are the right questions. First, social actors need reliable, decision-grade information and insight to thrive, and at our best, that’s exactly what we provide. Second, we are neither alone nor unique in the challenges we face – and firms in adjacent industries, confronted with similar forces, can and do succeed. Finally, in our work with hundreds of news enterprises in the US, Europe, Middle East and Asia, we have seen success stories within and outside traditional journalism. It can be done."
